Foggy Snowgums – Victorian High Country

After hiking for days in blistering heat a little rain was welcome. This small stand of snowgums survived the terrible fires of 2003 and provided an excellent shelter for an overnight stay, the moist air and warm ground combining to produce this ghostly thick blanket of fog.

Snowgum Sunset - Mt Buggary Victoria

After snowshoeing for 2 days we made camp on top of this mountain.  When the sun goes down in the high country winter the temperature drops rapidly and the warmth of the tent is quickly sort. The rich colour of the winter sun highlights the magnificent colours of the snowgums.

Cobbler Snowgums

Taunted by the harshest of weather, these snowgums seemingly grow out of the rock and have managed to survive. Snowgums are very slow growing and appear dwarfed in comparison to other gums but they are very strong and well suited to their environment.

The Dragon Tree

Looking closely you could believe dragons are real. The twisted, weather ravaged snowgums can take on many shapes but never before has one resembled a dragon coiling up from the ground as if guarding the mountain.

Swindler Snowgums

After the blizzard of the previous day the morning rays gleam on the icy surrounds and tortured limbs of the snowgums
